Buddy Packages

Hi, my name is Akhil Kalva and I am currently in 8th grade (in 2019) at Taylor Road Middle School in  Johns Creek (an Atlanta suburb).

Few years ago, I started reading news which kind of taught me good and bad things in the world :). I came across an article about foster kids. Having never met a foster kid, this topic piqued my interest. After a bit of reading, I was disheartened by the number of kids who enter the foster care system everyday with minimal possessions. Some examples include kids walking into a foster home in the middle of the night with their important belongings in just a small, plastic grocery bag.

 

 I wanted to help them somehow, but I had no idea how to. Then I happened to come across a person who organizes basic necessities to help these kids. I thought it was a very nice gesture and decided that I will create a package that such kids need. With help of my parents, contacted local county officials and came up with the type of things that the kids need and thus the idea of a buddy package came about.

I am glad you read so far!. I have currently donated 12 Buddy Packages packages to Fulton County. They need a lot more buddy packages and we have many more surrounding counties that I would like to help as well. If you are interested in helping, please check out the "Donate" Page.
